Who We Are - Friends of the Harp (FOTH)
FOTH is a registered charity in Hong Kong providing a platform for friends of the harp to use the harp to touch the lives of the underpriviledged in the community. We are entirely self-financed and funds are raised through donations, fund raising harp events, membership income and rental income of donated/sponsored harp-related products (such as harps and harp books)
Funds are primiarly used to create needed community service that is otherwise unavailable |
We work with many NGOs like SAHK, HKFYG, Sheng Kung Hui to serve the underprivileged |
We seek donations to support our Harp Education, Outreach and Rehabilitation Program for the underprivileged |
All Founders and staff are volunteers who offer their services on a pro-bono basis.
Activities: Harp Festival | Harp Education Program for Underprivileged Children | Charity Performance | Music Library |
How We Started
FOTH was inspired by the unprecedented support for the Hong Kong Harp Festival (HarpFest). The HarpFest is a 2-4 week festival of harp performances and activities taking place in a pulic venue making the harp and harp music accessible to the community. The finale of the HarpFest is an all-day Charitable Live Harp Marathon that has received overwhelming response from the local and overseas harp community, including over 100 professional and amateur harpists, young children and families, the public media and the community at large.
HarpFest 2006 and 2007 have raised over HK$600,000 in donations for selected benefitiaries. With the donation from HarpFest 06, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong (a member of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service) was enabled to establish the 'Music Rejoice Center' - the first Music Therapy Treatment Program for elderly citizens in Hong Kong. For HarpFest 07, funds raised were donated to Medecins Sans Frontieres, providing emergency medical aid to the needy.
